About the role
Stripe is hiring a Software Engineering Intern to work on a real, legitimate project that customers urgently need - not a sandboxed exercise. Every intern ships production code as part of their team's actual roadmap, with a dedicated intern manager and exposure to systems design, testing, and cross-functional collaboration at a company processing payments for millions of businesses.
What you'll do
Write software that will be used in production, with meaningful impact to Stripe
Give and receive technical feedback through code reviews and design discussions
Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to proactively seek and incorporate feedback
Learn quickly by asking questions and communicating status clearly to your intern manager and team
Ship a real project - recent examples include rebuilding statistics aggregation and new service discovery systems
What we're looking for
0+ years of relevant experience
Strong fundamental computer science understanding, pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in CS, math, or a related discipline
Some programming experience through side projects or classwork - Stripe works mostly in Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go
Experience from previous internships or multi-person projects demonstrating giving and receiving feedback
Ability to learn unfamiliar systems through independent research and working with a mentor
Nice to have
At least 2 years of university education or equivalent work experienceSpecialized knowledge balanced with general skills - e.g. frontend technologies or HTTP request handlingExperience writing high-quality pull requests with good test coverageComfort navigating and managing work across multiple languages and new codebases
